Digital Guardian of the Blue Homeland: Galata Marine USV Technology

Protecting the maritime borders and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) of our country, which is surrounded by seas on three sides, requires not only a physical presence but also high technological superiority. Developed by Galata Marine, the Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) is equipped with high-precision mission capabilities, providing a cost-effective solution without risking human life.

1. Technical Architecture and Hull Design

Our vehicle is specially engineered to maintain stability even in challenging sea conditions (Sea State 4 and above).

  • Modular Hull: Features interchangeable payload compartments that can be rapidly reconfigured based on the mission profile (e.g., assault, search and rescue, or intelligence).

  • Low Radar Cross-Section (RCS): The hull geometry and advanced composite materials make it difficult for enemy radars to detect the vehicle.

  • Propulsion System: Equipped with electric or hybrid motor options providing high maneuverability and a low noise profile, ensuring essential stealth during operations.

2. Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Decision-Making

The core strength of our project lies in its ability to operate independently of a human operator.

  • Sensor Fusion: Data from thermal cameras, LiDAR, Radar, and Sonar are processed by the AI unit to create 360-degree situational awareness.

  • Dynamic Route Planning: It identifies stationary or moving obstacles (other vessels, rocks, buoys) and performs avoidance maneuvers in accordance with International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).

  • Autonomous Return-to-Base: In the event of a communication loss, the vehicle ensures its own safety and autonomously returns to a pre-defined base.

3. Operational Use Cases

The Galata Marine USV is designed as a multi-purpose platform:

  • Military and Defense: Border patrol, early warning against asymmetric threats, and naval target systems.

  • Underwater Mapping (Bathymetry): 3D mapping of the seabed and shipwreck detection using high-resolution sonar systems.

  • Mine Countermeasures (MCM): Conducting mine sweeping and identification activities in risky areas without risking personnel.

  • Logistics and Support: Unmanned supply delivery to offshore platforms or larger vessels.

4. Test Achievements and Future Vision

In field tests conducted by Galata Marine Shipbuilding engineers, the vehicle received full marks for its autonomous cruise stability, data transmission speed, and AI decision-making processes.

  • Current Status: The prototype phase has been successfully completed, and testing under harsh weather conditions is ongoing.

  • Goal: Developing Swarm Technology, enabling multiple USVs to communicate with each other and execute joint missions as a synchronized ecosystem.

Why Galata Marine USV?

We are not just building a boat; we are establishing an “intelligent” maritime ecosystem that will solidify Turkey’s technological independence at sea. With indigenous software and national engineering power, the Blue Homeland is safer than ever.
